Building a science or technology start-up requires a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a solid foundation. A solid foundation encompasses a detailed developed business plan, a finance and funding strategy, as well as marketing and sales considerations will greatly support your future start-up efforts while potentially creating greater opportunities. 

 

In line with our company’s mission to support the vital processes underlying the development and commercialization of novel life science innovations into cutting-edge products and services, this workshop will serve to support science and technology entrepreneurs by providing a focused hands on experience on the theory and implementation of key elements supporting new venture creation.  Each installment of the series will focus on a specific foundation block spanning business development, finance, marketing and sales and will be lead by experts in the particular area. 

 

Financial Management Block:

A critical corner stone of any successful development and/or commercialization project begins with solid financials.  Whether it’s conducing financial due diligence/analysis, developing a funding strategy, or management of financial resources during the development process, finance is a key resource to any new venture.  This workshop will focus on presenting those elements in the context of real world application so as to best incorporate them into the foundation of your start-up plan.  Light food and refreshments will be provided.

 

This three hour intensive workshop will provide attendees an introduction into strategic business planning and financial management of science and technology focused ventures.  Topics covered will include:

  • An overview of financial and accounting concepts
  • Seeing your venture from a "finance perspective"/Challenges facing life science ventures
  • Strategic business planning/Tools to monitor operating results to achieve long-term financial goals
  • An overview of potential financial resources for Mass life science ventures

About the Instructor:

Sulo Musyaju advises life science and technology businesses to evaluate new technologies, manage profitability, cash flow and internal controls.  Previously, she directed finance and accounting operations of Stryker Development and her experience spans managerial and analytical roles at both publicly traded multinational companies as well as private and SBIR funded enterprises.  Additionally, she currently serves as the Treasurer of the Medical Development Group.

 

Ms. Musyaju is also a member of Munevar & Associates, Inc., a life science technology development and commercialization consulting company.  The company is comprised of an integrated, multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and business professionals focused on supporting the advancement, development, and commercialization of life science centered innovations.  As part of our Business Development Group, Ms. Musyaju focuses on supporting financial analysis, management, and funding strategy development for life science related technology development and commercialization.

 

Ms. Musyaju has been recognized as a Fulbright Scholar and holds her Masters in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University and a MBA from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.
